Livets trådar

Jag har sedan många år intresserat mig för väven och tråden som metafor för mellanmänskliga relationer och som symbol för liv. I mina verk visar jag vävar av olika slag, dock inga traditionella textilier. Jag broderar vävar i papper, kalligraferar gotiska bokstäver till generationsvävar, tecknar livsvävar, författar texter med vävmetaforer som beskriver livsomständigheter mm. 

Sedan en tid har jag vidgat mitt intresse för tråden och innefattar även livets minsta beståndsdelar, de som bara består av en cell eller är i full gång med att dela sig och utveckla sig till organismer och att slänga ut trådar till sin omgivning.

Dagligen använder vi oss av vävmetaforer i språket. Trots att vi gått in i en digital tid använder vi oss av ord med analog innebörd från en tid när det fanns en vävstol i nästan varje hem. Vi bråkar och trasslar med varandra. Vi är ute på nätet och knyter an till varandra osv.

 

I mina verk använder jag mig av tekniker och material från många olika kunskapsområden, t ex grafik, kalligrafi, typografi, grafisk formgivning, papper, broderi, bokbinderi etc. Jag har på senare tid funnit Artists´ Books som en gemensam nämnare för alla dessa tekniker och känner stor tillfredsställelse i att utforska detta område som för mig blivit ett sätt att skapa små rum för att exponera ideér, teckningar, grafik och texter.

Threads of life

For many years I have been interested in interwoven threads as metaphors for human relationships and symbols of life. I work with different weaving techniques without using traditional textiles. My work can take the form of embroidery on paper, a calligraphic weaving together of generations, sketches of interwoven lives, or texts that draw on weaving metaphors to describe life’s events.

More recently I have broadened this to include threading together the smallest components of life, those that consist of a single cell or one that is in the processes of dividing to create a new organism. Some of these cast threads out into the surrounding space. 

Everyday life is rich with these metaphors. Decades into the digital era, we still use a language interwoven with analogic references to a time when there was a loom in every home. We talk about the ‘fabric’ of life, of ‘threading’ our way through a problem or along a path. We ‘spin’ stories and create narratives that ‘embroider’ the truth. When we are confused, we say we have ‘lost the thread.’ Even the internet is a weaving metaphor, a net and a web where we communicate through ‘threads’ of digital exchange, and that still carries traces of the Greek goddess Clotho, the spinner ‘who spun the thread of life.
